Installation guide

How to get each app, grouped by where it runs. Each app's page has the full steps.

In your browser

A browser extension or a page you open. Nothing reaches a MoodlIA server.

MoodlIA Rubrics

Import a complete rubric into Moodle from a spreadsheet instead of typing every level by hand.

Anyone with a browser

Install the extension

  1. Open the “Rubricando para Moodle” page in the Chrome Web Store and select “Add to Chrome”.

  2. The extension asks for no access to any website when it is installed.

On your computer

Browser apps you download and start locally. They talk to Moodle directly, without a backend.

MoodlIA edX Converter

Turn an Open edX course export into a Moodle course backup.

With a little technical help

Run it on your computer

  1. Download the project and install its dependencies:

    git clone https://github.com/gafapa/moodlia-edx.git
    cd moodlia-edx
    npm install
  2. Start it and open the address it prints, normally http://localhost:5173:

    npm run dev
  3. To publish it for a team instead, run npm run build and copy the dist/ folder to any static web server.

MoodlIA Teacher Dashboard

See your courses, upcoming deadlines, and resources on one screen.

With a little technical help

Run it on your computer

  1. Download the project:

    git clone https://github.com/gafapa/moodlia-teacher-dashboard.git
    cd moodlia-teacher-dashboard
  2. Open index.html in the browser, or serve the folder and visit http://localhost:4173:

    python -m http.server 4173

MoodlIA Analyzer Web

Find which students need help, with course and student analytics from Moodle data.

With a little technical help

Run it on your computer

  1. Download the project and install its dependencies:

    git clone https://github.com/gafapa/moodlia-analyzer-web.git
    cd moodlia-analyzer-web
    npm install
  2. Start it and open http://localhost:5173:

    npm run dev

On your Moodle site

A plugin installed once by a site administrator.

MoodlIA Moodle Plugin

Let AI assistants and scripts work with Moodle safely, within Moodle's own permissions.

For Moodle administrators and developers

1. Install the plugin

  1. Download local_moodlia-<version>.zip from the Moodle Marketplace or from the GitHub releases. Do not use GitHub's “Source code” ZIP.

  2. Go to Site administration → Plugins → Install plugins, upload the ZIP, and select “Install plugin from the ZIP file”.

  3. Continue through the checks and select “Upgrade Moodle database now”.

  4. Check that Site administration → Plugins → Plugins overview lists MoodlIA (local_moodlia) under Local plugins.

In a terminal

Command-line tools published on npm, for scripts, automation, and AI agents.

MoodlIA CLI

Run every MoodlIA plugin operation from a terminal, a script, or an AI agent's shell.

For Moodle administrators and developers

Install and configure

  1. Install the command globally:

    npm install -g moodlia
  2. Set the Moodle address and token (bash):

    export MOODLE_BASE_URL="https://your-moodle.example"
    export MOODLE_REST_TOKEN="your-token"
  3. Or in PowerShell:

    $env:MOODLE_BASE_URL = "https://your-moodle.example"
    $env:MOODLE_REST_TOKEN = "your-token"
  4. The same two values can also go in a .env file in the working folder.

Moodle Core CLI

Automate Moodle through its standard web services, with nothing to install on Moodle.

For Moodle administrators and developers

Prepare Moodle (administrator)

  1. Enable web services and the REST protocol.

  2. Create an external service and add the core functions you need, plus core_webservice_get_site_info for version detection.

  3. Create a dedicated user with the required permissions and a token for that service.

MoodlIA Sync

Copy course content from one Moodle site to another without backups, after you approve a plan.

For Moodle administrators and developers

Install

  1. Install the command globally:

    npm install -g moodlia-sync
  2. If your npm policy blocks install scripts, approve and build the database driver once:

    npm approve-scripts better-sqlite3
    npm rebuild better-sqlite3
  3. Describe both sites in .moodle-profiles.json; each token is read from the environment variable you name:

    {
      "schema_version": 1,
      "profiles": {
        "school_a": { "url": "https://moodle-a.example.edu",
          "credentials": { "core": { "token_env": "SCHOOL_A_CORE_TOKEN" } } },
        "school_b": { "url": "https://moodle-b.example.edu",
          "credentials": { "core": { "token_env": "SCHOOL_B_CORE_TOKEN" } } }
      }
    }

In your AI agent

Instructions that teach an AI agent how to work with Moodle.

MoodlIA Skills

Teach an AI agent to operate Moodle through MoodlIA and to write content that survives backup and restore.

For Moodle administrators and developers

Install the skills

  1. Download the repository:

    git clone https://github.com/gafapa/moodlia-skills.git
  2. Copy each complete skill folder, with its references, into your agent's skills folder, for example ~/.claude/skills/ for Claude Code or ~/.codex/skills/ for Codex:

    cp -r moodlia-skills/operate-moodle-with-moodlia ~/.claude/skills/
    cp -r moodlia-skills/design-portable-moodle-content ~/.claude/skills/
